Chief of Training

William Streuber

Asst. Chief of Training

Edward Padgett

The City of North Charleston Fire Department Training Division was started in the beginning of 1972 with Chief William Long at the helm. The office was located at the old Reynolds Avenue fire station on the 2nd floor. It was his responsibility to provide initial training for new hires and coordinate training for current employees. The training office moved to it's current location, at Cross County Road Station #4 in 1985. The first major prop, the "Fire Tower", was built by several members of the fire department.

-

In 1986, Chief Marvin McDaniel became Chief of Training. During Chief McDaniel's tenure, members of the fire department became certified as Interior Structural Firefighters through the South Carolina Fire Academy. New training prop's were created and new training materials were purchased to assist in bringing the fire department to the forefront in training.

-

In 2000, Chief William Streuber became Chief of Training. His assistant would be Chief Edward Padgett. Their goal was to start where Chief McDaniel left off. The goals include bringing all fire department members up to IFSAC Firefighter I & II, improve the training facility to include hazardous materials, confined space/high angle rescue, propane prop, and building a new burn building for live fire burning.
