North Charleston apartment catches fire
Brief Reports for March 22nd, 2008 - Post and Courier

A fire that started with an electrical short in a water heater damaged a North Charleston apartment building on Friday afternoon, firefighters said.

Crews responded to Planters Crossing on 7910 Cross Roads Drive at 12:37 p.m. It took firefighters only about a minute to douse the flames, but they could have spread quickly if neighbors hadn't noticed them early on, Battalion Chief Eric Phillips said.

There was severe fire damage in the water heater closet in Apartment B in building No. 12, as well as significant smoke and hot water damage throughout, Phillips said.

A couple of other apartments were flooded, and the department was working with the local American Red Cross chapter to get help for the people who live there.
