The Fire Investigation
Division was established in 1982. Their primary function is to
investigate and determine the origin, cause and circumstances of all
fires of an incendiary or suspicious nature within the City of North
Charleston. This also includes investigations of bombings and explosions
as well as pursuing criminal charges against persons suspected of being
guilty of the crime of arson and other fire/explosive related criminal
activity.
The Fire Investigation
Division also investigates fire incidents involving deaths, serious
injuries as well as major commercial and residential residential
structure fires. In addition they also assist in the training of members
of the fire department in fire cause determination and arson detection
practices and procedures.

Division routinely assist other fire departments and law enforcement
agencies in determining the origin, cause, and circumstances of serious
fire or related incidents in their respective areas. |
