North
Battalion takes up a majority of the newest part of the city, including
the
Charleston International Airport
and
USAF Base "Team Charleston"
an surrounding area. The Battalion boundaries run from I-526, north to
the City Limits, and from the Ashley River, east to the Berkeley County
Line. With a mixture of high dollar communities, blue collar
neighborhoods, industrial and commercial structures, as well as I-26,
the personnel in this battalion must be ready for the possibility of
anything.

Station 3:

This station opened in 1994, replacing the previous building that
had served the department for over 30 years. Centrally located in
the heart of the city, this station protects the I-26, I-526
interchange as well as the department's headquarters. The NCFD's
Hazardous Materials Unit is stored here and all shifts provide
technician support in the event of an incident.

Station 4:

This station
serves as the training facility of the department. The station is
located in a large industrial area which is surrounded with
residential neighborhoods as well as one of the busiest roads in
South Carolina. This road is currently the subject of a widening
project that will last for the next year.

Station 6:

This
station responds to numerous residential neighborhoods, apartment
complexes, and town homes. They also have several of the deadliest
intersections in the state of SC, and have seen some of the worst
auto accidents in the history of NCFD.

Station 9:

This
station protects the upper area of the city around Highway 78 and
Ladson Rd. Set in a residential development, it is surrounded by
numerous mobile home communities, apartment complexes and numerous
residential structures. This area is another fast growing region of
North Charleston.

This
station is located deep in a area that has a large number of mobile
home parks, older housing developments and light industry. Their is
a large influx of Spanish speaking residents in this area which has
made calls difficult in the past. With the Ashley Phosphate corridor
and the back gate of the Air Force Base

Station 11:

Protecting the upper West portion of North Charleston is the job of
Station 11. This area covers portions of both Charleston and
Dorchester Counties. The Wescott Plantation Golf Course and
Community as well as the future North Charleston Recreation Facility
is located here. This area is the fastest growing in the entire city
with the newly developed Palmetto Industrial Park as part of it's
second due response area.
